Mountain Valley is a hidden gateway to the landscapes and legends of the Mohaka Valley; a magical rural retreat set on the banks of the Mohaka river, overlooked by the legendary Te Waka peak. Just 5 mins off SH5, within easy reach of Taupo and Hawke's Bay, Mountain Valley is an accessible and secluded piece of wilderness New Zealand in which to relax and recharge or indulge yourself in a wide variety of active adventure pursuits. We offer a wide range of facilities, including our all new bar and restaurant in Mountain Valley Lodge with its huge deck overlooking the river. Our accommodation ranges from detached, self contained two-bedroomed cottages, through cosy chalets to backpacker lodge rooms. If none of these appeal, we have 20 powered sites and one of the regions most scenic campsites right next to the river.

As a rural retreat, Mountain Valley offers a real opportunity to reconnect with the natural world. We are surrounded by the legendary mountains of the Kawekas. The river is classified as one of only two remaining 'wild and scenic' watercourses on the north island, and is a mecca for our river pursuits, including heritage and white water rafting, wilderness kayak adventures, and some of the best trout fishing in the world. We also take great pride in offering some of the finest wilderness horse treks in the region. All of our guides are local people who like nothing more than to involve you fully in all of our activites, whilst relating stories of the history and legends of this remarkable region, and introducing you to its flora and fauna.

Heritage and scenic river rafting (Grade 1-2)
Two stunning river journeys lasting from 1 to 2 hours. These are perfect for young families and for those who want to soak up the scenery, wildlife and heritage of the river and its environment.

White water rafting (Grade 3-4)
An all day trip on the Mohaka running some 20kms of truly remote bush and mountain country, with roughly ten Grade III rapids en route, including the locally renowned Te Hoe drop.

Multi Day Expeditions (Grade 1-3)
With our unique location right beside the Mohaka, our individually tailored multi day trips for groups lasting from 2-4 days take in the best and remotest stretches of the river. Camping on the riverside and, depending on the trip, at natural hot springs, these journeys are a fabulous way to experience the New Zealand bush scenery and pristine river environment.

For smaller groups or families, we offer two great guided Grade 1 & 2 kayaking trips lasting one or two hours. For more information, please visit our website at www.mountainvalley.co.nz

Rafting expeditions and white water expeditions:
Multi Day rafting expeditions are a personal activity. All expeditions travel through the Kaweka Forest Park on grade II and some grade III water. Contact Mohaka Rafting to customise an expedition for you. You will travel where very few have been in tranquil surrounds through New Zealand native bush and gorges.
