Otago / Southland Companies

Family Adventures are specialists in soft adventure family trips rafting and kayaking the upper reaches of the famous Shotover River, Queenstown.
We are the only operator in Queenstown licensed to take children until 13 years on raft trips because the section of the river that we raft has only grade one and two rapids.

The trip kicks off with a drive into the famous Skippers Canyon – quite possibly the most spectacular drive in NZ! The views are astounding and the area is jam packed with history and gold mining relics. Our knowledgeable guides will enthrall you with tales from the colorful gold mining past.

We will kit you out with all the gear you’ll need from the ground up at our base beside the historic Pipeline built back in 1864, before taking to the water at the put in point made famous as “The Ford of Bruinen” in the Lord of the Rings movie.

Our trip by bus and raft is a unique way to experience the wonderful backcountry we have close by in Queenstown, and is suitable for everyone from 3 years upwards.

Special packages for groups & conferences by arrangement.

We are locally owned and operated and are NZ's largest rafting operator. We provide excitement on two local Queenstown rivers as well as a 3 day, 2 night wilderness rafting experience in South Westland on the Landsborough River. The Shotover River is one of NZ's most popular rafting rivers and travels through the spectacular Skippers Canyon, the world's 2nd largest gold bearing river. The Kawarau is a scenic, large volume river culminating in the largest commercially rafted rapid, the 400m Dog Leg.

The Landsborough wilderness rafting experience is a journey through isolated, unspoiled New Zealand back country. Everything is provided, including amazing meals and exciting river action. Two night's camping in this incredible wilderness area makes this a unique NZ wilderness experience. Our purpose built rafting base is situated on the banks of the spectacular Shotover River and offers après-rafting facilities including hot showers, saunas and our fully licensed café called Cavells Café & Bar for purchasing refreshments and food.
